grub vs. grub2
by Michael Hennebry
As F14 is EOL, I'm planning to install F16 real soon now.
The plan is to install F16 on a completely different set of partitions.
I've never had an install go right the first time.
Adding to the fear and trepidation, is the change from grub to grub2.
I'd like to be sure that after the disaster I can boot the old system.
Could I do something like put my old /boot onto a CD and boot from that?
If the old /boot isn't written over, could I use any live CD?
In the first case,
can I just tell the CD burner to burn the /boot partition?
In the second case, do I need to invoke the grub shell?
If so, what do I tell it?

Solution to clearlooks modue error from acroread
by don fisher
Has anybody seen this but me? I searched through many incorrect
solutions posted by Google, before finding that you need to:
yum install gtk2-engines.i686
Should not this be a default dependency in the RPM? I did load the rpm
from the fedora.repo, so I am not sure if there is anything that can be
done.
It is an easy fix:-)

taming mount output
by Geoffrey Leach
The output of F16 mount is somewhat confusing. Is there a way to
confine it to just the output of interest to the average user?
Thanks. Sorry for the FAQ.

F16: gnome-shell question
by Joachim Backes
Hi,
if pressing activities->applications, seeing a lot of applications I had
already uninstalled, but still appearing in the "all" submenu. Question:
Is there a gnome-shell tool which can be used to cleanup those
applications from the gnome-shell menus?
Kind regards

Yes that is the message get.
So it is a gnome//error.
I tried your suggestion but after logging in under the new user I get
the same error.
I also looked for a file xorg.conf in /etc/X11, but there is no file
called like that.
Thanks for your suggestions.

X won't start in fedora 16
by Peter Lesterhuis
Hi,
When I boot all seems to go well at first. But after the log-in screen a
message pops up: "Oh no! Something has gone wrong" etc. I am advised to
log out and back in again, but the problem occurs every time. The weird
thing is that when I hit the windows-key the ususal X-screensaver
appears. But when I try to launch an application I get an black screen
with the error message again.
When I boot in rescue mode and try to start X it fails.
I vaguely remember having run into this problem before, years ago, but I
don't know how it was solved
Does anyone have a clue?
