multi reboots to get lirc to work in F15...
by dwoody1
The computer is setup for Mythtv. I have recently upgraded from F14 to
F15. The lirc works only after many reboots on F15.
Lirc worked perfectly on F14. Searching the archives on Fedora has
yielded no information.
I have found others that have the same problem by doing web search but
there were no solutions to be had.
The remote is a RC-6 Microsoft remote that has been in use for several
years. lsmod shows:
ir_lirc_codec 3902 0
lirc_dev 12212 1 ir_lirc_codec
rc_core 16034 13
rc_hauppauge,rc_rc6_mce,mceusb,ir_lirc_codec,ir_mce_kbd_decoder,ir_sony_decoder,ir_jvc_decoder,ir_rc6_decoder,ir_rc5_decoder,cx88xx,ir_nec_decoder
The last lines in /var/log/messages are:
Feb 8 17:14:08 star kernel: [ 9.768401] lirc_dev: IR Remote Control
driver registered, major 249
Feb 8 17:14:08 star kernel: [ 9.856323] rc rc0: lirc_dev: driver
ir-lirc-codec (mceusb) registered at minor = 0
Feb 8 17:14:08 star kernel: [ 9.972748] rc rc1: lirc_dev: driver
ir-lirc-codec (cx88xx) registered at minor = 1
Some times the log will show client removed but not always.
The upgrade to F15 was done with preupgrade.
Any help is appreciated,
David

What list to use?
by don fisher
If one discovers a missing piece in the system, to which mailing list
should it be reported? For example, trying to run grub2-mkrescue results
in the error:
/usr/bin/grub2-mkrescue: line 310: xorriso: command not found
I assume that when grub2-mkrescue was loaded, it was assumed that
xorriso would be there. The --help says:
Usage: grub2-mkrescue [OPTION] SOURCE...
Make GRUB rescue image.
-h, --help print this message and exit
-v, --version print the version information and exit
-o, --output=FILE save output in FILE [required]
--modules=MODULES pre-load specified modules MODULES
--rom-directory=DIR save rom images in DIR [optional]
--xorriso=FILE use FILE as xorriso [optional]
--grub-mkimage=FILE use FILE as grub-mkimage
grub2-mkrescue generates a bootable rescue image with specified source
files, source
directories, or mkisofs options listed by: xorriso -as mkisofs -help
Option -- switches to native xorriso command mode.
Report bugs to <bug-grub(a)gnu.org>.
Mail xorriso support requests to <bug-xorriso(a)gnu.org>.

Horizontal workspaces in Gnome3?
by Christopher Svanefalk
Dear all,
does anyone know if there is any way (by plugin or otherwise) to get
horizontal workspaces that can have windows stretched across them in
Gnome3? This could be done with compiz in Gnome2, and it was a huge part of
my Eclipse perspective setups...I miss it, but have not seen any way to
work around it.
I know the obvious solution would be to switch to XFCE or LXDE (or
equivalent), but before considering that I wanted to see if it can be done
in Gnome3, since I overall have started to like it rather well.
Best,
Christopher

Hello,
With the version 16, as a user,

It looks like that there is a right issue.
running selinux in permissive mode does not help.
How can I fix this issue?
Thank.

Android anyone?
by Timothy Murphy
I've just acquired a Samsung Galaxy S2 phone,
and am somewhat disappointed at the lack of Fedora facilities
for communicating with the phone.
Is there any documentation explaining eg how to transfer contacts
to and from an Android phone?
The only Fedora documentation I have found is concerned with development,
presumably on the phone.
I'm looking for something much lower down the intellectual ladder.
I've seen it suggested that the android-tools package
is the Linux version of the Windows program Kries
(which works out "out of the box" on the phone)
but it seems to be aimed at an entirely different audience.

Cronometer (GPL) goes web based, loses GPL ?
by linux guy
I am a long time user of Cron-o-meter. Its a Java GLP application for
nutritional monitoring. It works great.
http://cronometer.com/
As long as I've know it (4 years), cronometer has been a GPL
application that you installed on your local computer. As a matter of
fact, cronometer has and still does maintain a sourceforge account.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/cronometer/
However, Cronometer is now available as an online application. The
provider has set up a web site that serves the application to users
via browsers connected to the internet
The online version of Cronometer has extra functionality, not included
in the local version.
"The original version of CRON-O-Meter is still available for download.
However, we highly recommend using the web version instead as it has
more features, a bigger database, and you can access your data from
anywhere. For those that prefer the stand-alone version, you can
download it below." http://cronometer.com/download/
Even more functionality is available for the online version via a
premium membership.
No source code has been made available for the web served application.
Has the cronometer provided broken the rules of the GPL by enhancing
it and turning it into a web application and not providing the course
code back to the user base ?
If so, where and how should this be reported ?
Thanks !
