Hello,
I still have the issue with firefox which freezes fior while before I get
a message asking if I want to stop or continue the script
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

If I downgrade firefox: yum downgrade firefox xulrunner
The problem disappears, however, I downgrade to firefox 17.
Haw can I only downgrade to firefox 20 or (21.02). Both versions were
working fine?
Thank for your help.

converting text to pdf
by lee
Hi,
is there any good way to get the paper to be in landscape as well as the
text, for pdf files created with
paps --cpi 20 --font="DejaVu Sans Mono" --landscape somefile.txt |ps2pdf - somefile.pdf
This prints the text in landscape, and the paper shows in portrait so
you need to turn your head when displaying the file with xpdf :(
I'm currently using enscript which requires to recode UTF-8..latin1 the
files before using enscript on them, and apparently enscript only
understands AFM fonts. The result isn't as pretty, but at least the
paper is in landscape, too.
Landscape is important because the files to convert are basically emacs
org mode tables, and I can't do them in LaTeX because tables that could
go over multiple pages are a major pita with LaTeX. Maybe they can more
reasonably be converted by emacs itself in batch mode and I just haven't
found out how to do that?

DRC
by lee
Hi,
since we're stuck with pulseaudio, how do I enable DRC? If pulseaudio
can't do that, how would I get rid of pulseaudio? System wide DRC would
be the only useful feature it would have for me.

Dual screen video display problem
by Robin Laing
Hello,
I have had a video display issue after an update a few months ago. I
cannot post from work due to mail filters so I am posting from another
account so responses will be slower.
Fedora 18, 64bit, clean install using nvidia graphics with Nouveau using
KDE. Both monitors are the same make and model. Purchased at the same
time.
Before the problem occurred, I would boot and get all messages on the
left screen until the X server started. If the screen saver locked the
screen, the unlock dialog box would be on the left screen (screen 0). I
could run KDE with effects enabled. The first indication of a problem
was the reboot after the kernel upgrade and error messages about the KDE
desktop effects not being able to run.
Due to work schedule, I couldn't deal with the problem before now.
Now, when I boot, the left display shows the BIOS boot and then the
displays enter mirror mode. When the X server kicks in and KDE starts,
the display goes to side by side as expected. The desktop works as side
by side when I can drag windows between the monitors and virtual
desktops as expected, just slower.
I cannot run any of the KDE desktop effects.
When the screen saver kicks in, it is a different screen savers on
each monitor, not one across both. Previously it was one screen saver
across both monitors. Using the Galaxy screen saver, the star movements
would go between the screens. Now there are two different galaxy scenes
and motions.
If I move the trackball, I get a unlock dialog box on both screens but
they are not mirrored. If I enter a password in to either dialog box,
the desktop unlocks.
I cannot use anything that requires a full screen such as You Tube
videos in a browser or any game.
I have gone through the settings in Grub and tried different desktop
settings. Nothing I can find on the net has pointed me in the right
direction on this matter.
This setup has worked flawlessly for two years now and worked well until
the update.
Due to this issue, the system runs slower when moving between screens or
virtual desktops. Lack of full screen is a pain for some things. No
Tux Extreme racer unless I want mirrored action.
I have tried changing the "GRUB_GFXMODE=" with no success.

rsyslogd suddenly went crazy (120% cpu)
by Clemens Eisserer
Hi,
I am running Fedora 19 + updates-testing and suddenly rsyslogd went crazy,
and is now consuming constantly 120% cpu (and is also constantly expanding
allocated memory).
I first thought it could have something to do with updates I've applied
recently, so I rolled back to an older btrfs-snapshot - which however
didn't improve the situation.
I've recorded some stack-traces: http://pastebin.com/ikwC3h4g
When executing "tail -f /var/log/messages" I get the same messages from 16.
and 17. May over and over again.
Any ideas what could cause these problems?
Thank you in advance, Clemens

Split memdisk out of syslinux package?
by Tom Horsley
I've just been experimenting with ways to backup and
update my BIOS without windows, without a floppy,
and without burning actual CD media. Google led
me to this:
http://www.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php/MEMDISK#GRUB2
It works great. I was able to make this grub2 menu
entry:
menuentry "Boot Freedos 1.1" {
insmod part_msdos
insmod ext2
set root='hd0,msdos1'
linux16 /syslinux/memdisk
initrd16 /syslinux/FD11-144.IMG
}
It boots a freedos floppy image and from there I can
access a FAT USB stick which has the BIOS utility
and images on it.
However, to get that /syslinux/memdisk boot image,
I had to download the syslinux rpm and use rpm2cpio
to extract it - all the info I could find in the
fedora docs seem to indicate that actually installing
the syslinux rpm will result in getting switched to
the syslinux boot loader.
It would be handy if this memdisk bit were a
separate package that wouldn't interfere with
my grub2 boot loader, but I could just use
independently with grub2 like this.

fastCGI
by Rafnews
Hi,
i have a webserver (apache 2.4/php5/mysql 5.6) and i want to be sure it
is setup to use FastCGI.
when i execute phpinfo(); i can see (in loaded modules):
mod_proxy_fcgi
mod_proxy_scgi
mod_cgi
mod_php5
however using my standard fedora user account, Ii still can not
edit/remove/move files/folders owned by apache user account.
while searching on internet i discovered that fastCGI should allow me
(using my fedora user account) to do such thing, even if files/folders
are owned by apache user account.
therefore i deduced that fastCGI doesn't work properly on my webserver.
Please, could you tell me how can i be sure that fastCGI runs well on my
webserver and that i use it correctly ?
thx
