Install fc18 from DVD demands network connection
by Bill Davidsen
This is back, <sigh> again. Having found out that fedup fails totally to work on
drives with encrypted partitions, I tried to install from DVD. The DVD is good,
the system is good, I booted in recovery but the partitions were not recognized
as anything at all, so I rebooted to do full install from DVD. That's not
happening, the DVD demands to do a network install. Why does this happen and how
can I get by it? There is nothing to configure and [QUIT] works as expected.
NOTE: no, it's not practical to transport the system to a useful net, or do a
network install over dialup. Install from DVD normally just works, what's
triggering this issue? I realize that fedup isn't going to get fixed, I filed
this as a bug against earlier releases, without getting a fix or workaround.

Video Transcoder & Screen Recorder
by Junayeed Ahnaf
Hello,
I couldn't install handbrake on fedora (a search showed me that Handbrake doesn't compile on F19 due to some issue in llvm). So, I was wondering what better alternate is there for video transcoding?
And I couldn't install Kazam either. So what's the best alternate for kazam, which is a screen recorder, by the way.
Thanks :)

ATA over Ethernet (AoE)
by Fernando Cassia
I remember looking at ATA over Ethernet back in 2007 but back then it
relied on vendor-provided drivers....
I read now that AoE has been merged into the Linux kernel starting w
2.6.11 or thereabouts...,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATA_over_Ethernet
My questions are twofold:
1. Of all the drivers for AoE available, anyone here has succesfully
used any with Fedora?
2. Hardware: If AOE was ever popular, it seems interest has decreased
now, as for the life of me I cant seem to find ANY low cost, single
drive SATA to AoE adapter on Amazon.com...
Whackypedia mentions: "In 2007 LayerWalker[15] announced the world's
first single-chip AoE hardware solution called miniSAN[16] running at
both Fast and Gigabit Ethernet grades. The miniSAN product family
offers standard AoE server functions plus other management features
that targets PC, consumer and SMB markets. Data Fabrics Inc. offers
low-cost internal and external GbE AoE enablers as well as desktop and
rackmount AoE SAN appliances. "
Well http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LayerWalker 's web site is not
responding to requests, for starters....
I guess what I'm looking for is a single drive SATA to AoE (Gigabit if
possible) "enabler". Ideally it'd also have to cost less than a NAS
with its own OS and CPU.... Is there anything out there?
The web site seems dead...

Kazam installation error
by Junayeed Ahnaf
Hello,
I'm trying to compile kazam (all the tutorials I could find are based on Fedora 18, where it compiles without any problem at all) but I'm getting error
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "setup.py", line 4, in <module>
from DistUtilsExtra.command import *
ImportError: No module named 'DistUtilsExtra'
Any kind of help? And yes I have python-distutils-extra installed, doesn't help

Handbrake on Fedora 19
by Junayeed Ahnaf
Hello,
Anyone successfully compiled handbrake on Fedora 19? If not, is there any good video transcoder for Fedora?

WARNING: Your hard drive is failing
by Mateusz Marzantowicz
WARNING: Your hard drive is failing
Device: /dev/sdd [USB JMicron], unable to open device
I see this message on all my terminals and system logs. Actually nothing
is failing, I've disconnected USB hard drive (using "eject" button in
GNOME shell), then disconnected drive from cable. It looks like some
part of Fedora 19 is not noticing drive removal. Can I fix it somehow?

How 2 view apple movie trailers using F19
by Fred Smith
Hi all!
I'm really stumped here. I've got F17 on one netbook and with it am able
to view apple movie trailers using Firefox.
On the OTHER netbook, now with F19, I have, AFAIK, all the same browser
plugins and underlying packages installed, but the videos won't play.
when clicking any of the options to start playing, a black window for
the video opens, and the player's controls are drawn at the bottom, and
that's as far as it goes. clicking the play button (it starts paused,
apparently) makes no difference.
I can provide a list of browser plugins (it's not on the computer
I'm using ATM) and anything else you want to see, just let me know.
thanks in advance!
Fred
