what does it mean for a pkg to both require and provide "config(pkg)"?
by Robert P. J. Day
another packaging question, if i may. first, what does it mean when
a package provides "config(packagename)"? for instance, firewalld:
$ rpm -q --provides firewalld
config(firewalld) = 0.3.9.3-1.fc20 <-- ???
firewalld = 0.3.9.3-1.fc20
$
so firewalld apparently provides ... what? a configuration component
for itself? i can see that that package includes the command-line
config command /usr/bin/firewall-cmd -- is that what that line refers
to? that firewalld installs its own configuration utility? or does it
mean something different?
and then what does it mean when a package both provides and requires
the same thing? firewalld again:
$ rpm -qR firewalld
/bin/sh
/bin/sh
/bin/sh
/usr/bin/python
config(firewalld) = 0.3.9.3-1.fc20 <---
... snip ...
so the firewalld package apparently both requires and provides the
same thing -- "config(firewalld) = 0.3.9.3-1.fc20". can someone
clarify what that means? thanks.

Brosix
by Roger
Has anyone got Brosix working cleanly on Fedora 19?
It works on my machine but the 3 second delay echo and the chopping of
voices on both my box and the Apple box I communicate with makes
communication untenable.
Researching all day so far is of no real help
Can anyone advice how to get clean clear reception and transmission.
thank you in advance

Best repo for cinnamon themes, applets, desklets and extensions?
by Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
I'm just enjoying latest cinnamon desktop on my Fedora 20
I see this web site
http://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/
are these provided also in rpm based format in some way/repo, in
particular for extensions?
At first sight on my Fedora 20 desktop a search for packages gives only:
cinnamon
cinnamon-control-center
cinnamon-control-center-devel
cinnamon-control-center-filesystem
cinnamon-desktop
cinnamon-desktop-devel
cinnamon-screensaver
cinnamon-session
cinnamon-settings-daemon
cinnamon-settings-daemon-devel
cinnamon-translations
imsettings-cinnamon
In case of direct download and install from the web site are there any
caveats to use when an upgrade comes in Fedora repo?
Thanks in advance for any tip,
Gianluca

Empathy sound notifications not working
by Kalpa Welivitigoda
Hi,
I don't get sound notifications for Empathy. I have enabled sound
notifications in preferences in Empathy.
This is f20 (upgraded from f19), cinnamon 2.0.14 and Empathy 3.10.3.
I am not sure whether this should be directed to empathy list or cinnamon,
but anyone with the same issue or got resolved?
Empathy is not listed as an application in sound settings as well (I doubt
this will help to figure the cause).

Hello,

I setup nx

Fatal error: Could not connect to NX Server.
Please check your ssh setup:
The following are _examples_ of what you might need to check.
- Make sure "nx" is one of the AllowUsers in sshd_config.
(or that the line is outcommented/not there)
- Make sure "nx" is one of the AllowGroups in sshd_config.
(or that the line is outcommented/not there)
- Make sure your sshd allows public key authentication.
- Make sure your sshd is really running on port 22.
- Make sure your sshd_config AuthorizedKeysFile in sshd_config is set to authorized_keys.
(this should be a filename not a pathname+filename)
- Make sure you allow ssh on localhost, this could come from some
restriction of:
-the tcp wrapper. Then add in /etc/hosts.allow: ALL:localhost
-the iptables. add to it:
$ iptables -A INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT
$ iptables -A OUTPUT -o lo -j ACCEPT
where does it take:
APPLICATION_LIBRARY_PRELOAD
?
or:
COMMAND_START_KDE
This is commented in
/etc/nxserver/node.conf
!!
I can run nxclient on the machine itself only in mode NX and not in ssh.
When I try to connect on another machine (fedora 16 or fedora 18), in a local or
adsl network running the same way, I have
no problem to run ssh, but I can never run nxclient:
I get:
running NoMachine sessions over a SSH connection is not supported on this server. Do you want to switch your connection to using the NX protocol?
if I switch to NX, it does not work either.
I get:
Could not connect to the server.
Error is 113: No route to host
why that?
The NX server is runing every where:
/usr/libexec/nx/nxserver --status
NX> 100 NXSERVER - Version 3.2.0-74-SVN OS (GPL, using backend: not detected)
NX> 110 NX Server is running
NX> 999 Bye
I checked that I have a nx group, with a user in this group.
I also added:
AllowUsers pdupre nx
AllowGroups nx
in
/etc/ssh/sshd_config
and restart the server!!
remmina almost work the same, ssh OK, sftp OK, but nx does not open a window on the remote machine!
what to do?
Thank.

remote desktop to Fedora 20 with xrdp
by James
I was able to setup xrdp on my Fedora 13 machine and access
it from my Windows 7 machine by follow the steps on the first post on
this thread: http://www.linux.org/threads/rdp-into-your-linux-desktop.8/
It was simple and easy.
But when i try the same on my Fefora 20 machine, things are quite
different. There is no error message but some new info like these:
-----
# chkconfig --levels 35 xrdp on
Note: Forwarding request to 'systemctl enable xrdp.service'.
# service xrdp start
Redirecting to /bin/systemctl start xrdp.service
--------
and then I cannot remote it from my window machine.
I also did the following based on the last post of above thread:
# yum -y install tigervnc-server
I also did set up recommended by this blog: http://networkstatic.net/xrdp-an-easy-remote-desktop-setup-for-your-ubunt...
which are the following:
yum install xrdp
systemctl enable xrdp.service
systemctl start xrdp.service
systemctl enable xrdp-sesman.service
systemctl start xrdp-sesman.service
But I still cannot remote to it:
I was able to ping each other.
I can access the shared folder on my Windows machine from my Fedora
20. It seems the problem is on the Fedora side. how to know the service
on linux is running? The "service --status-all" cannot give me useful
information.
Any configuration I should do to make xrdp works for me?
thanks,
James

vim-common conflicts with vim-minimal
by Fulko Hew
This morning (while yum install (testing my private package))
I'm getting the error:
file /usr/share/man/man1/vim.1.gz of vim-common-2:7.4.189-1.fc20.i686

Yesterday it was fine.
Did something break overnight ?
And, whats a possible workaround?

Apple Air-Print on Cups
by Arthur Dent
Hello All,
I have a Brother HL-2170W printer which works very well, but which is
not of course an Apple Air-print printer. Most of my family seem to have
Apple devices. I read somewhere that it is possible to make any printer
Air-Print compatible by modifying the Cups settings. This seemed like
such a good idea I would have a go. A have a F17 (I know, I know - but I
am going to try to upgrade when I have some time over the Easter
holidays...) machine which is always on an runs cups.
I found this article
http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php?topic=9633.0 which has some
information but I got stuck at the bit about avahi.
I then had a look at this article
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=60740 upon which the
first one is based. The updated page now says that this method is
deprecated because "Discovery of a Mint/Ubuntu attached printer from an
iPad pretty much works out of the box as long as you have shared the
printer, instructed the CUPS server to publish that printer, and have
made sure that the avahi-daemon is running."
I am a bit lost. Has anyone got this working on a Fedora machine? If so
can you point me to a how-to?
Thanks in advance!

F20 Updates or yum broken?
by Dan Irwin
Hello,
This morning while running yum update -y I noticed some problems.
It seems like abrt has some dependancy issues, and yum can't deal with this
on it's own.
I am also seeing a long list of erroneous messages like the following:
firewalld-0.3.9.2-1.fc20.noarch is a duplicate with
firewalld-0.3.9-1.fc20.noarch
firewalld-0.3.9.3-1.fc20.noarch is a duplicate with
firewalld-0.3.9.2-1.fc20.noarch
>From talking to rpm I get this:
# rpm -q firewalld
firewalld-0.3.9-1.fc20.noarch
firewalld-0.3.9.2-1.fc20.noarch
firewalld-0.3.9.3-1.fc20.noarch
Looks like the rpmdb has become corrupted. I wouldn't expect 3 versions of
something like firewalld to be installed concurrently.
