More as an exercise than anything else. I have been running the Fedora
version for a while but I don't like the bells and whistles someone has
added. For other users YMMV.

Gjots2 installation issues on F32
by Frederic Muller
Hi!
Opened a bug report in the Gjots2 bug tracker but didn't receive a
response yet. So apparently the package has been upgraded (since v3.1.0)
to use Python3 and PyGObject for GTK-3, and is actively maintained,
which is great.
I am using Gjots2 to store my passwords, using PGP encryption and not
being able to install it is a bit of an issue.
So when downloading the latest rpm from sourceforge
(v3.1.6-1.fc31.noarch.rpm) I am getting the following errors when
installing:
Problem: conflicting requests
- nothing provides python(abi) = 3.7 needed by gjots2-3.1.6-1.fc31.noarch
Any idea how to resolve this?
Thank you.

Errors compiling
by Frank
I am trying to compile/install IceWm for my Fedora 32 installation. Ran
into some problems I have resolved, but
I am stumped by these:
checking for strlcat... no
checking for C++11 by default... yes
checking for CORE... no
configure: error: Package requirements (fontconfig xrender xcomposite
xdamage xfixes xext x11) were not met:
Package 'xdamage', required by 'virtual:world', not found
Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.
DNF tells me all these programs are installed along with their
development files.
What am I missing ?

Starting and stopping RAID doesn't work from Cron
by Patrick O'Callaghan
I have a backup script (using Borgmatic) I run every night, where the
target is a RAID1 array connected by a USB dock. The dock is normally
off so the script turns it on, does the backup, then turns it off
again. This is the cron entry:
# cat /etc/cron.d/borgmatic
# Run borgmatic every day at 3am
0 3 * * * root /usr/local/bin/dock up && /usr/bin/borgmatic ; /usr/local/bin/dock down
The on/off script (see attached) works reliably when run from the
command line, but fails when run via cron. The journal shows the
following:

Audacity can't play audio on Fedora 32
by Sreyan Chakravarty
Hi,
Audacity is unable to play any sort of audio in Fedora 32 on my HP
Notebook.
I installed Audacity from Gnome Software so pretty sure it is a FlatPak.
Whenever I hit the play button I get:
"Error opening sound device.
Try changing the audio host, playback device and the project sample rate."
I did ask the guys over at the Audacity Forums, but they were, lets say,
less than helpful.
You can find the full details of my thread here:
https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p=395574
The sound devices listed in Audacity are:
* HDA Intel PCH: HDMI 0 (hw:0.3)
* HDA Intel PCH: HDMI 1 (hw:0.7)
* HDA Intel PCH: HDMI 2 (hw:0.8)
* HDA Intel PCH: HDMI 3 (hw:0.9)
* HDA Intel PCH: HDMI 4 (hw:0.10)
* hdmi
And you can find my "Audio Device Info" from Audacity over here:
https://pastebin.com/raw/icDNX20x
So far no other application has given me any issues with sound, Firefox,
VLC, Rhytmbox all work fine. Its only Audacity that is the oddball.
Since the people at Audacity don't know what is going on, I am asking
you guys.
Let me know if any further diagnostic info is required.
Thanks.

migrating drives on UEFI systems
by Tim
Hi,
On the old BIOS systems, if I wanted to swap hard drives on a system
(e.g. move over to a bigger one), I could clone it off-line, then swap
over, and it'd just work.
Should I expect a UEFI system to do it that simply?
And do secure boot options throw any spanners in the works, too?
I tried this last night, and it didn't want to boot. I cloned it using
"dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb" while booted from a gparted ISO on a USB
flashdrive (current release). Shut down. Unplugged the old drive.
Rebooted.
If it makes any difference, I can't recall if I plugged it into the
same SATA port on the motherboard. It's a board with 6 sockets, and
I'm only using two of them (DVD and HDD).
I did get it to boot by messing with the boot menus in UEFI, but it was
quite hit-and-miss about what to boot from. I can't remember now if I
selected the drive with it on, or the entry with the release's name in
it, but neither worked on the first boot. It was a few reboots before
I got it to go.
