I changed that following using the prescribed routine and the change appears to be as
requested:

J restarted the computer since there was no improvement in the network browser display of
SMB.
OK, one more thing to try.....
sudo systemctl --now disable avahi-daemon.service
sudo systemctl --now disable avahi-daemon.socket
