Aargh! It is apparently coming from NIS. I *always* remove
the nsswitch.conf entries for nis for everything except
user/group (which is the only reliable information
the NIS server provides), but something (I'm looking at
you authselect :-), but back nis entries for everything
in my nsswitch.conf file.
Grrrr...
