command blocked. It then waits for a response that will not and
cannot come. That's what's dumb.
I've had this happen to me. I even waited about 20 minutes to see if it
would *ever* time out. It didn't. Had to hard-reset the machine to
reboot it, with the usual risks to filesystem data.
