I think that's saying the directory /media/smb doesn't exist. Does it?

Once more with all the fstab lines commented out.
[root@WS1 bobg]# mount -o uid=bobg,credentials=/home/bobg/cred
//192.168.50.149/home/share /media/smb
mount error(2): No such file or directory
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs) and kernel
log messages (dmesg)
