Yet, my experience of Office gives me exactly the opposite response.
Office suits the use case of a large organization with a "corporate
standard"
configuration. I've had to deal with reports put together from
contributions
by multiple authors each using a different version of Office, including
some from
Japan where even plain text computer code was using a proprietary font that
wasn't available on my version of Windows.
Importing all the docs to Open Office and a few font substitutions and
formating
tweaks produced a PDF document acceptable to all the authors.
