Hello all, I was just wondering how to go about creating the "su" / admin account for F-29? I installed the beta and it only created the main user,...I'm almost certain that in F-28 there was an option upon install to create the admin/root account? I didn't see it in the beta, is it gone? is there now a new process? Just curious is all.....
Thank In Advance

Does that mean the only way to administer the machine is to be the first-ever user, or to have that user create you and make you a member of "wheel"?
That would seem logical, as that's the way it's done in other operating systems: the first-ever user creates other users having administrative privileges, and no one may ever, under any circumstances, administer the machine /without/ having those privileges. Of course, it's easy enough to switch users, especially in KDE.
Just so long as everyone's on the same page.
And so long as one can upgrade from F28 to F29.

Doesn't that main user have admin access? You should be able to use sudo with it. I think they've removed the option to set the root password in the installer. If you really want one, then use sudo to set the root password.

I just did a VM install of F29/XFCE from the live XFCE iso and you can set the root user password in the installer. You can also create a normal user and set its status to "administrator" in the installer. Exactly like F27/F28 did.
Technically, this thread belongs on the fedora-test list as F29 is still Beta and not yet released. This list deals with released Fedora systems. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- - Rick Stevens, Systems Engineer, AllDigital ricks@alldigital.com - - AIM/Skype: therps2 ICQ: 226437340 Yahoo: origrps2 - - - - All generalizations are false. - ----------------------------------------------------------------------

The reported behavior is related only to Fedora Workstation (GNOME). Also Fedora 28 doesn't ask you to set a root password. < https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/ReduceInitialSetupRedundancy#Root_Acc...

Ok. I avoid Gnome like the plague.

Fedora 28/XFCE doesn't _REQUIRE_ you to set a root password in the installer, but you _can_. There are several different ways of installing, including using a live image or the net installer which have different options. If you don't create a user in the installer, you will get the initial setup screen on the first boot which will let you create the initial user, but not the root password.
