question?
by Dan Ladd
Yeah this is the only email address i could find because I had a
question about the fedora project. I didn't konw where to direct it.
So here goes... I was wondering about the WinFS file management
system. If something like that (meaning the built in database
system) was going to be included in fedora or other RedHat operating
systems or if something like is already in an operating system with
RedHat? It seems like it is old technology because the AS/400 or now
the iSeries has the built in database system to locate physical files
that are stored in logical files. If you could direct me to where i
can have that answered that would be awesome.

Can see Chinese chars in Acrobat, can't print
by Dougherty, Michael
Hi,
My wife needs some (traditional) Chinese forms printed from an official Taiwan gov website. I seem to recall somehow getting this to work in FC1, but with my upgrade I can't get it in FC2. Using Adobe's Acrobat Reader (acroread) at first the characters weren't "all there" but I installed their Chinese character font kit (file chtfont.tar.gz, unzipped, untarred, installed, OK), and then I could see them, but I can't print the documents. I tried all the acroread options like level 1-3 postscript output, do/don't download Asian fonts, etc. When I output to a .ps file, gv can't read it. I bet I'm missing something stupid, I guess on the ghostscript level(?). For laughs I installed the "taipeifonts" rpm but I don't know what that's for specifically and it did me no good anyhow.
I appreciate any help with this I can get. Sorry if this is an old topic. It takes some time to search the whole archive on my dialup.
Thanks for any help!

RE: automatic fsck??
by Michael Marsh
What settings would I adjust in order to answer "yes" to all of fsck's
repair questions automatically when my FC2 box decides to run fsck on
bootup? I have a remote server and am not able to get the box into
single user mode in order to run fsck manually.
Thanks in advance........

two squid listeners using one configuration?
by Duran, Richard
We'd like to set up a 2nd squid listener on a new port, e.g. 3129, that will allow access to a limited number of sites without the need for login ID authentication. We have a group of employees who aren't given internet usage IDs, but we'd like them to access a few sites during their breaks. Speaking of which, is it possible to configure squid to allow this access only during certain time periods?
TIA,

netware 6.5 connection from fedora
by Paul Bradshaw
Hi there,
Does anyone know if ncpfs will allow me to connect over tcp to a Novell
6.5 server? I'd been using it to connect to 4.11 server over IPX fine,
but I can't figure out how to connect to 6.5 with it, if it's possible
at all.
If ncpfs won't do it, does anyone know what will?
Thanks,
...Paul

Nagging X problem
by Thomas E Dukes
Hello,
My system is setup to boot in runlevel 5, I would prefer it not. I have
changed it to runlevel 3 in the inittab and that works. BUT, if I then want
to start X manually from the command line, it just hangs.
I'm using "startx" after logging in. Is that the correct command? I have
been using RedHat since early 1996 and that always worked. Has something
changed?
TIA

Four words for Red Hat ...
by Bryan Smith
*THANK*YOU*BIG*TIME*!!!
RE: http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1663735,00.asp
Sorry, I have just been hoping for years now. Being caught between
countless integration projects, many times brought in as an "independent
consultant" to evaluate/advise as Microsoft pitched ADS, Sun pitched Sun
One, Novell pitched NDS (eDirectory), various add-on vendors pitched
their integration solutions all while the institutions own IT "grass
roots" efforts to convince management to built their own OpenLDAP suite
internally ...
This is what I have waited for a long time!
The MS of Linux? Give me a break!
God I wish I could smack people who say that.

Can RedHat buy the old Swing from AOL for gcj ?
by Freddy BL
Hi!
I have red, that RedHat have buyd the Netscape Enterprise Services from AOL.
But is it possible, that RedHat buy also the rights of the old
Swing-implementation from AOL?
In times, where only AWT for Java exists, Netscape have created the
"Internet Foundation Classes" (IFC) with its own widgets.
Sun saw, that this was good and created with Netscape together from ground
up new the follower of the IFC: the "Java Foundation Classes" (JFC), which
includes Swing.
In Java2 the JFC are integrated and Sun have developed further Swing.
But on the old Swing Sun and Netscape have had _together_ the rights.
So, is it possible, to buy the rights of the old Swing from AOL?
Because I think, that the old Swing-implementation is still _a lot_ of
better then the actual implementation of the GNU Classpath Swing.
Greatings
Freddy
