Repos and Downloads from freshrpms.net
by Chadley Wilson
Greetings to all,
Best wishes for the new year, I hope we all prosper with Linux systems at hand
and do well.
I have one question,
Why is it that when sitting on a 2MB fiber backbone to the inet, Some
downloads from freshrpms.net rocket at fantastic speeds of up 60KB, and at
the same time from the same site one file will stall as if there is no
bandwidth. You can finish two or three downloads and try the stalled one
again, but no joy. try again tomorrow and it will be fine.

Hello.
I am looking for 2 different ISDN passive or active PCI cards that function
on Fedora core 3.
Any ideas please? Lets say 1 active and 1 passive.
Thank you.

usb scanner configuration: hpusbscsi, udev
by Thomas Frayne
I am running on an up to date Fedora Core 3 system, and have installed
sane-backends 1.0.15-1.4 and xsane 0.92-13 via synaptic. Over the last
18 months, I have periodically tried to get my HP 7450C scanner working
under SANE, but was never completely successful. I am now trying again,
and am getting similar problems to those I have had before. I sent a
query to the sane-devel mailing list, and the response suggested that it
would be better to ask on a Fedora mailing list.
My system loaded hpusbscsi, which does not work with sane-avision.
After much searching I found /etc/hotplug/blacklist and edited it to add
hpusbscsi to prevent hpusbscsi from being loaded. This fixed scanimage
-L, which now returns
device `avision:libusb:002:010' is a Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 7400c
flatbed scanner
instead of the incorrect `avision:/dev/sg2' is a Hewlett-Packard ScanJet
7400c flatbed scanner.
Now I find that /dev/scanner-usb-:proc:bus:usb:002:010 is a link to
/proc/bus/usb/002/010, but the device name changes when I reboot. I
would like to use udev to create a constant device name
/dev/usb/scanner0 for this device. I put entry
SYSFS{product}="hp scanjet 7400c", SYMLINK="as/Scanjet"
into /etc/udev/rules.d/09-tom.rules. However, if I unplug the scanner
and plug it back in, the log indicates
Jan 2 23:34:23 PCasus kernel: usb 2-1.1: USB disconnect, address 10
Jan 2 23:34:26 PCasus kernel: usb 2-1.1: new full speed USB device
using address 11
It has no udev log entry.
Before the device address changed /proc/bus/usb/devices contained:
T: Bus=02 Lev=02 Prnt=02 Port=00 Cnt=01 Dev#= 10 Spd=12 MxCh= 0

What is going wrong with udev?

Re: Linksys WMP11 Wireless PCI card
by Dave Andreasen
I have version 2.7 of the card. I was using it in my
family's PC, but decided to buy a new Linksys card for
it. I will try the ndiswrapper and see how it goes.
Thanks for your help!

First you should check which version of the card you
have (as the
various versions have different chip sets and
therefore require
different drivers), then you can go to
http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/phpwiki/index.php
or
http://www.linuxant.com and check whether your version
of the card is
supported. I believe there is no open source
implementation of a driver
available for the WMP11. You may want to return it and
exchange it for
a
WMP54G Version 4 for which an open source driver is
being developed,
see: http://www.ralinktech.com/supp-1.htm and
http://rt2400.sourceforge.net .
Generally, before buying hardware for Linux it makes
sense to make sure
an open source driver exists as this causes the least
troubles getting
the hardware to work.

Erwin

X terminating suddenly without warning
by Chris Ruprecht
Hi all and a Happy New Year!
OS: FC3 (updated to current)
Graphics: ATI Radeon Mobility
X11 terminates from time to time (mostly at the least convenient moment,
of course) without any warnings. One minute, I'm happily working, the
next, the mouse freezes, then, a few seconds later, I get the Graphical
login screen.
I checked my X logs but they do not contain keywords like 'fatal' or
'error'.
Any ideas?
Best regards,
Chris
