xmms-mp3.rpm for fc3 x86_64/AMD64?
by Gene Smith
Does the subject rpm exist? If not, can I use a 32 bit version with fc3
AMD64 installed? (livna no longer supports x86_64 and freshrpm only
seems to have x86_64 rpm's mostly for fc2.)

iwconfig file update question
by Terry Linhardt
I've looked at the man for iwconfig, but could not find an answer to
this question:
When I use iwconfig to update wireless parameters, I'm "assuming" there
is a file that gets updated somewhere. Is this an ASCII file that can be
directly edited? Or, is iwconfig updating a binary file somewhere on the
system?
Thanks..Terry

Unable to boot newly-upgraded FC3
by Danny Stewart
Hello all,
I just got my installation upgraded from Fedora Core 3 Test 1 to Fedora
Core 3, but it refuses to boot
This is what happens when I attempt to boot it:
Initializing hardware: network storage audio [ OK ]
Configuring kernel parameters:
And it just stops there and won't boot past that.
Thanks in advance for your help!

New monitor and I am getting no display (GUI)
by Appeet
I had installed fedora fc3 on my desktop. Everything was working fine until I connected a "New MONITOR".
Once I installed my new monitor, I do not get any GUI. Only the shell appears during startup and after that it is just the monitor power light blinking (I know monitor is fine because on my dual boot things are well on the XP side)
So what do i need to do ? Do I need to probe my new monitor ? How can I do it ?
Graphics card : Intel 82810 display adapter
Monitor : Samsung Samtron 55V
Thanks in advance.,

Re: hostname in fc (SOLVED)
by Partha Bagchi
There was a question about hostname in FC, namely that the router did
not show the name of the linux machine on the router DHCP table. In my
setup (FC3, linksys router), I made the following change: Go to
System Settings -> network
and then select your interface. I have wired and wireless. I picked the
wireless and selected edit. I then changed the DHCP hostname to my
computer name and saved. I restarted the network and voila - The name
was visible in the router DHCP table.

Boot hangs after fresh install
by Ned Voorhees
Hello,
I am a Fedora newbie, although I have used other flavors of unix for a
number of years. I have just downloaded and installed FC3 32-bit
2.5.9-1.667. I checked the media before the install and it passed.
The installation experience was nice/easy and all seemed to go as
expected. At the end of the installation process, I was prompted to
eject the cd and click a button to reboot. I did this and the machine
hung on startup. After waiting for 10 minutes or so, I rebooted again
(and several more times) and it always hangs in the same place.
This machine is an old Aptiva with a Pentium 350 with 128M RAM. I
checked the hardware just before installing Fedora core by booting the
existing Windows 98 OS that was installed on it. Win98 came up just
fine. It is not dual boot - blew away *everything* on the hard drive
to install one new partition with Fedora core only.
Below are the messages shown on the screen at boot time:
--- snip ---
Booting 'Fedora Core (2.6.9-1.667)'
root (hd0,0)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.9-1.667 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet
[Linux-bzImage, setup=0z1400, size=0x155da5]
initrd /initrd-2.6.9-1.667.img
[Linux-initrd@0x7ef3000, 0xecfed bytes]
--- snip ---
The above is all that is shown on the screen when the boot process
hangs. If anyone has any suggestions on what I might want to do or
check, I would very much appreciate it.
Thanks much,
Ned
