Hi,
I need to make a simple command line installer (a binary file that would
uncompress its content when run, then execute an arbitrary comand) but I
didn't find such a utility in fedora packages. Does anybody know one ?
Thanks

Will my graphics card support this?
by awrobinson-ml@nc.rr.com
I received a Dell 20 inch monitor for Christmas. It's native resolution
is 1680x1050. Looking at my Xorg.0.log file, I find these lines:
(II) NVIDIA(0): Not using default mode "1680x1050" (hsync out of range)
(II) NVIDIA(0): Not using default mode "1680x1050" (hsync out of range)
(II) NVIDIA(0): Not using default mode "1680x1050" (hsync out of range)
(II) NVIDIA(0): Not using default mode "1680x1050" (hsync out of range)
(II) NVIDIA(1): Not using default mode "1680x1050" (hsync out of range)
(II) NVIDIA(1): Not using default mode "1680x1050" (hsync out of range)
(II) NVIDIA(1): Not using default mode "1680x1050" (hsync out of range)
(II) NVIDIA(1): Not using default mode "1680x1050" (hsync out of range)
Do these lines mean my video card will not support this resolution or
that I need to do some configuration to get the card to support this
resolution or something else entirely?
Thanks!

pam update and /etc/pam.d/system-auth question
by Genes MailLists
Stock fc6 install - after an update of pam I now have in /etc/pam.d:
4 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 14 Nov 4 12:32 system-auth -> system-auth-ac
8 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 844 Nov 4 12:32 system-auth-ac
4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 683 Dec 22 16:49 system-auth.rpmnew
Should system-auth.rpmnew have replaced system-auth-ac or not?
The changelog does not clarify this for me...
thanks.

Re: bacula server
by RYAN M. vAN GINNEKEN
Thanks again mostly u/we got it to work so far. However it is asking for a pile of dependancies. I know give a guy an inch and he will try to take a mile or km here in Canada. Is there a way to install without any gui stuff or mabey i am wrong mabey there is no gui stuff. Some of the dependancies for those dependancies are X11 related.
I do not have any X11 stuff on this box it has no xwindows/gnome system and is minimum install Command prompt only. So before i go ahead and make a big mess of my faily clean fedora box do i really need all these or is there a way to turn some of them off.
Thanks again and sorry about top post i think my clock was messed up not sure how it happend but should be fixed now.

Lets just say it is a probably a good thing the fedora box is remote so i cannot physically get to it. Got C++ installed managed to get the extras working and seem to have the rpmbuildtree in my home directory. Looks like i am on to a whole new set of problems now, but this is great i think this means progress right?

We got the defines wrong. Try this:
$ rpmbuild --rebuild \
--define 'build_fc3 1' \
--define 'build_mysql4 1' \
bacula-1.38.5-4.src.rpm

Yes, it is. See here for an explanation:

GnomeBaker and unmounting RW media
by Mauricio Teixeira (netmask)
Hi!
I'm using GnomeBaker on FC6 to write CD/DVD. When I insert an RW media
that already carries some content, Gnome correctly mounts and pops up an
window for it. If then I try to write to this media using GnomeBaker,
it's not possible because the media is mounted.
The problem is: IMHO either GnomeBaker should unmount the media, or
there should be an option when right-clicking over it (the media) to
unmount it.
Right now I have to open a terminal, 'su' to root and unmount it.
How can I make this somehow automated, or at least get the unmount
option on Gnome?

Custom DVD
by Астахов Петр
Hello!
If I put FC6-CDx-*.iso somewhere in the network available via nfs, I can
load from 1-st CD-disk, select installation method NFS and enter path to
this isos. All ok.
But if I put 5 iso-files on the DVD and try to install from my own DVD,
installer can't found packages.
Why I want such DVD?
If you have DVD on destination computer, installation will be easy.
If you don't have DVD on destination computer - you can write ISO-s to
CD and install FC from CD.
Is anybody can help me with this problem?

Lost Ctrl+Shift+hex unicode entry - FC6 issue?
by Neil Bird
At some point in the recent past, I seem to have lost the ability to
enter Unicode values in GTK apps. (inc. Thunderbird & gvim) by holding
<Ctrl+Shift> and entering the hex value. It seems to act as if <Shift>'s
not held down (and yes, my Shift keys work).
This may have happened as part of upgrading from FC5 to 6; anyone any
idea what to check?
