Fedora 9 - Found bug on ACPI actions related with power off button

Hi all, I found a little bug on acpi script that should check for the presence of kpowersave or gnome-power-manager, before to issue the shutdown command. The script, located on /etc/acpi/action on fedora 9 use the awk command. This is the peace of script that I think bugged -- start code -- # Check that there is a power manager, otherwise shut down. [ "$uid_session" ] && ps axo uid,cmd | \ awk ' $1 == '$uid_session' && ($2 == "gnome-power-manager" || $2 == "kpowersave") \ { found = 1; exit } END { exit !found } ' || shutdown -h now -- end code -- On my pc I have the shutdown .h now everytime I push the power button, even if I configure it by kpowersave. So I checked the ps axo uid,cmd | grep kpowersave and I found 0 /usr/bin/kpowersave so the awk command if everytime false I would like if someone can check it and can confirm it's a bug. KDE 4.1 on Fedora 10

flash-plugin installed and not available

Hi; I am not getting any sound with my flash plugin. changing 'hosts' to get my machine name ?

Hi; This is an old stupid question but I am stuck nonetheless. I have googled for several different ways but none work. I have changed my /etc/hosts file to: 127.0.0.1 CASE localhost.localdomain localhost This is the same as from my F9 /etc backup. CASE is the name of my machine. None of my programs seems to recognize it except 'hostname' -s or -f. The same problem with localhost.localdomain. I have changed it manually before in earlier Fedora versions but now nothing seems to work. If I remember correctly there where two files that needed changing. Strange network problem in fc 10

I have a strange (local) network problem in fc 10 which I never had in fc9 on the same hardware (with same config files). This machine serves as a proxy+firewall between about 10 other machines on the local network (192. addresses - the # of machines varies depending on where laptops are) and the real world. There have been no problems up through fc9 (fc2-9 worked fine). No hardware has changed, and this is a clean install (I can swap boot drives in the bios so am able to go back to fc9 to check if and compare). While on fc9 the following work correctly, on fc10 the results are a little different: Under fc9: + The firewall+proxy machine can see all of the network printers and ALL of the machines on the 192 network. + All Linux, windows, and Solaris machines on the 192 network can see the firewall+proxy machine. Under fc10: + The firewall+proxy machine can see all of the network printers but CANNOT see the windows machines on the 192 network. + ONLY the non-windows machines on the 192 network can see the firewall+proxy machine. (The windows machines can still see each other AND can see everything except the firewall+proxy box. The files /etc/hosts /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1 /etc/rc.d/rc.local are identical between the fc9 root and the fc10 install. None of the other machines (Linux or windows) has had any updates since BEFORE the install of fc10. The firewall+proxy machine can see all of the Linux machines on the network, but none of the windows machines. A packet sniffer can see the attempts to ping from both sides, but there is never an answer in either direction. Finally, I can boot to the fc9 root drive and the problem disappears, while if I boot to the fc10 drive, it occurs repeatably. Machine: Athlon 64 X2 6000+ CPU with 6 GB ram, mixed scsi and eide drives. Kernel: (fc10: same result with both kernel-2.6.27.7-134.fc10.x86_64 and kernel-2.6.27.5-117.fc10.x86_64). {note: on fc9 it was the 2.6.27.7-53.fc9.x86_64 kernel}. Glibc: glibc-2.9-3 (x86_64, i686, and i386 installed). Any pointers as to what I might try to find a solution here would be greatly appreciated, as I've spent many hours reading and going over everything I could think of - with no luck. I suspected a problem with SE linux, so as a test, I took the firewall +proxy machine off the internet (no connection), disabled selinux, and rebooted. The results were (as expected) unchanged. (And it's back in place now, although I thought the disk relabeling would take forever...). I really don't think this is a bug - scanning through bugzilla didn't find any pointers. Server cannot connect to the outside world

I am having some network problems and I am not sure if they are my fault or not. I have some Dell Poweredge servers. Another employee installed Fedora 9 on these without setting any network settings, then they were put in a rack, and plugged into the network. They have two nics, so one has an internal ip (192.168.1.8 in this instance) and the other has an external ip. I can't say I've ever done network setup in Fedora, and it's been ages since I messed with Linux as I am primarily an OpenBSD user. I turned off NetworkManager and turned on the network: # chkconfig NetworkManager off # chkconfig network on I've edited the appropriate files in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ ifcfg-eth0: # Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5703X Gigabit Ethernet DEVICE=eth0 IPADDR=216.xxx.xxx.xxx NETMASK=255.255.255.0 ONBOOT=yes BOOTPROTO=none HWADDR=00:0b:db:e7:7f:e9 NM_CONTROLLED= ifcfg-eth1: # Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5703X Gigabit Ethernet DEVICE=eth1 IPADDR=192.168.1.8 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 ONBOOT=yes BOOTPROTO=none HWADDR=00:0b:db:e7:7f:ea NM_CONTROLLED= And after I changed those files, I restarted the network: # service network restart ifconfig shows the interfaces having the proper ip addresses. I can connect to the machine on the internal ip, from other machines in the rack that are on the same range of 192.168.1.xxx addresses. I cannot seem to connect to it via the external ip though, even from machines that are on that same subnet, in the same rack. When I try to ping google's ip address from this machine, I get: connect: Network is unreachable There are also other older (though redhat) machines in this rack that are working fine, accessible remotely and via other internal machines. I've contacted the colo management and there are no firewall settings blocking these new machines. Also, I was told by the person who set up the redhat machines, that he had to run this command to get everything working on the redhat machines: # ethtool –s eth0 speed 100 duplex full autoneg off But when I ran this command on the interface I was connected to one of the machines on, it totally killed the connection and now I can't connect to it at all.. what's that all about? Getting DHCP to work/f10 declines to start network

I'm giving f10 a try on a new disk, and therefor a fresh install. I'm supposed to be picking up (and was with f8) the ip4 address from a dnsmasq server via dhcp, but f10 is barfing. Well, not entirely, as the IP6 style networking shows on ifconfig, but since I don't want IP6 networking at this moment, that isn't exactly usefull. Now since I dislike Network Manage on a desktop machine, and would prefe to have the network come up during boot, what is the prefered way to get rid of Netwreck Mangler (sp?), and bring the network up the old fashioned way. I'd love to see pointers or suggestions on trouble shooting this type issue also. And now to go pester fiend Google and find out how little I understand 8-/. Thanks for the assistance.

Great posts by Tom Horsley and Mike Cloaked re installing from iso files on hard disk. My main question is how did Tom, Mike know that the Anaconda options repo=hd:<device>:/<pathtoiso> and/or stage2=hd:<device>:/<pathtoinstall.img> can/should be added to the kernel line in grub.conf? additional question re the stage2= option , quoting from the anaconda options: Quote: stage2= Specifies a path to a install.img file instead of to an installation source. Otherwise, follows the same syntax as repo=. If this parameter is provided, it takes precedence over all other methods of finding the install.img. Otherwise, anaconda will attempt to find the install.img first on any existing CD, and then from the location given by repo=/method=. If only stage2= is given without repo=/method=, anaconda will.... endquote Question: what is meant by "repo=/method=" ??? it is used twice so not likely a typo Perhaps some programming jargon(python?) ?
