Skype and video[Was:Webcam recommendations?]
by Fernando Apesteguía
Hi all,
I'm using Skype 2.0.0.72 and I have a Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks,
as reported by lsusb:
idVendor 0x046d Logitech, Inc.
idProduct 0x08dd QuickCam for Notebooks
bcdDevice 1.00
With this version of Skype, I'm able to see other people doing video
conference (better quality with compiz disabled), but I can't get the
webcam working. In Options->Video, the webcam is detected, but when I
push the "Test" button, all I get is this:
Starting the process...
Skype Xv: Xv ports available: 4
Skype XShm: XShm support enabled
Skype Xv: Using Xv port 131
<Here Skype closes and I get the command prompt again>
Nothing catches my eye in the system log. I tried to install
libv4l.i386 but it didn't make any difference.
Any success cases? Any hints on how to solve this?

RHN Trial Subscription Wanted for 30 days
by Paul Ward
Hi,
I would like to do some practising on subscribing to channels and
patching via up2date on rhel4, 3 and 2
Does any one know how I can get a 30 day trail to do this so I can
subscribe.( I am a RHCT if it helps?)
I did have some numbers from the course I went on a long time ago and
never used, but can not get to them for several more months as I am
away.
If it is possible to do up2date in Centos I would consider but really
wanted RHEL for screenshots.
Cheers.

Lost Tray Icons
by Alex Makhlin
Hi all,
I am running Fedora 10 and KDE 4.2 Everything was fine until I decide to
install Gnome. After which, my KDE tray icons disappeared! I no longer
see my volume control, network control, wifi control or anything else
the tray should show me. Anyone know how to get this function back?
Thank you,

F10. Synaptic unable to install dl'd packages. Anyone confirm this?
by Nigel Henry
Synaptic still hasn't been fixed on F9. It will download the packages ok, but
complains of MD5 sum missmatches, and is unable to install the packages,
although subsequently doing an apt-get install for the packages, will install
the already downloaded packages.
The same problem appears to exist on F10's synaptic, although now there is no
warning message about MD5 sum missmatches.
Before I file a bug report, could anyone who uses apt, and synaptic confirm
that on F10, synaptic is unable to install packages that it has downloaded.
Probably not many apt users on the list, but worth a try.
Nigel.

Updated Packages - 21 February 2009
by Donald A. Greene
02 -21-2009: Installed (i.e. Updated) selinux-policy,
evolution-data-server-doc, selinux-policy-targeted,
evolution-data-server, gtkhtml3, evolution, evolution-data-server-devel,
evolution-help, evolution-perl.
Evolution stuff seems to have borked my evolution to the extent that
trying to print an email aborts evolution. Have had several aborts
while doing nothing but idling. Plus I am seeing the creation of
numerous extraneous folders with no names.
I have sent several bug reports to Bugzilla but it appaers to be down.
Seems to be quite a mess.
Anybody else seeing these errors or is it something unique to my
situation?

F10 - Preferred Applications
by Paulo Cavalcanti
Hi,
System -> Preferences -> Personal -> Preferred Applications
(/usr/bin/gnome-default-applications-properties)
does nothing in F10. I just realized that today, therefore
I do not know what caused the problem. This command
is part of control-center-2.24.0.1-12.fc10.x86_64
Is this another known issue of gnome 2.24?
Thanks.

Firewall problem: Only works on a restart.
by Steven W. Orr
I have a minor mystery and I don't know how to debug it.
I have two computers in the house. Machine A has two NICS, one of which is
hooked to the cable modem and sees the outside world. Also, Machine A
implements the IPTABLES firewall with NAT. Machine B and Machine A's 2nd
NIC are hooked up to a little hub. Ever since I upgraded to F10, I notice
that Machine B can't see the outside world unless I restart the firewall.
And just to make it interesting,
iptables -L > before
restart the firewall
iptables -L > after
diff before after
result is no difference
I'm wide open to a suggestion on how to fix this. And please don't tell me
to restart the firewall in rc.local. ;-)
TIA

Partition XP disk to add F-10 -
by Bob Goodwin
I've acquired a computer with a 40 gig hard drive with
one NTFS partition and XP installed. Can I somehow repartition
it to reduce the XP partition to a minimum using the F-10 live cd?
Or should I forget that and install an additional drive for F-10?
