Re: create liveCD with fedora-livecd-desktop.ks
by Edward M
Thanks for the replys:-)
Creating the LiveCD by executing the following command;
livecd-creator \
--config=/usr/share/spin-kickstarts/fedora-livecd-desktop.ks \
--fslabel=Fedora-LiveCD --cache=/var/cache/live
issued the following warning, however the LiveCD creation procdeure
continued:
the mountpoint / has already been defined.
warnings.warn(_("A partition with the mountpoint %s has already been
defined.") % pd.mountpoint)
After the 1135 packages were installed, I think from cache, the
procdeure failed with the following error:
********************************************************************************************************
Error creating Live CD : fsck after resize returned an error (1)!
umount: /var/tmp/imgcreate-4prhcu/install_root/sys/fs/selinux/load: not
found
Do I need to make changes to the base file or simply is a bug?
Iḿ using

Fedora 16 rhythmbox keeps freezing
by Neil Bird
Since upgrading to F16 from F14, both my wife and I have found rhythmbox
freezing after 3 or so songs, and it needs to be force-killed.
Any thoughts?
What may be relevant is that I have seen (at least for me, not
necessarily my wife) a spew of the following sort of error logged in
messages (once every few seconds):
pulseaudio[9075]: protocol-native.c: Denied access to client with
invalid authorization data.
.. which I can only stop by killing the referenced process. I don't know
what kicks it off, I can go for days without it (w.g, listening to streaming
radio via Firefox). it's only rhythmbox that seems to have a big issue.

stop iptables from log to dmesg
by Reindl Harald
how can i tell F16 that it should not spit
iptables-logging to dmesg?

each iptables-rule with logging has:
-j LOG --log-level debug --log-prefix "Firewall "
first rule "in rsyslog.conf"

kern.=debug -/var/log/firewall.log

well, the messages are away from /var/log/messages and console
but still in dmesg what makes a "distribute-command.sh dmesg"

Unfinished transactions remaining:
by Timothy Murphy
A couple of days ago I started to yum-remove a package
(I don't recall which)
and I was told that a vast array of packages
would also be removed.
I ^C-ed to stop the process,
as I wasn't sure whether I would be asked for my permission
before the packages were removed.
Now when I run "yum update" I am told
"There are unfinished transactions remaining.
You might consider running yum-complete-transaction first to finish them."
If I run this program, I am again told that the same vast array of packages
(including some if not all kernels) will be removed.
Again I ^C to stop the program,
as I am not sure my permission will be asked
before the removal begins.
If I ignore the warning and continue yum-update
I get the error

"sudo yum update glibc glibc-common", but none of them do the trick.
Any advice or suggestions gratefully received.
Ps: I should have confessed at the outset that this is on a machine
running CentOS-6.2.
But the problem seems a generic yum issue.

additional pasckages for Octave
by antonio montagnani
how do I install additional packages for Octave, i.e. the packages that
are not available in repos.
From Octave, installation seems disabled, I see the list of packages,
but when I select one package, I see dowloading, installing lines, but
eventually nothing is installed

You can use it to redirect all iptables messages to a seperate log only.
You may want to look at ulogd in the fedora repo. I have used this in
the past
for saving data to mysql.

Solution to Evolution indexing problems
by Aaron Konstam
Recently I requested a solution to an Evolution indexing problem. When
the standardly suggested solutions did not work I realized that a final
solution existed that worked. Before I installed F16 I backed up all
Evolution data using the option under File. So restoring the backup
solved the problem. It seems to me if one could periodically back up the
Evolution data to prevent having to deal with things like the indexing
problem. The down side is of course you loose some mail in the process.

You could look at sending iptables messages to /var/log/iptables using
rsyslog.

empathy auth. error with facebook and google talk
by Neil Bird
I thought I'd try to get the gnome-shell IM stuff working (on my
upgraded-to F16 box), and I believe I need to configure empathy for this.
However, whenever I put my credentials in for either Google Talk or
Facebook I get an “authentication error”. I know the passwords are correct;
a google around the subject seems to point the finger at SSl certificate
problems, but they're all old references and the solutions don't seem to apply.
Anyone any thoughts as to what I could look at?
