Evolution indiexing error
by Aaron Konstam
In evolution to the left of the screen there is a list of the names of
the folders and next to the name in parenthesis a number representing
the number of unread messages in the folder.
That is working except for Inbox. The number is not decremented when a
message is read.
I did what has worked before in this situation. I cd
to .local/share/evolution/mail/local_mbox and remove the file
Inbox.ibex.index. But when I restart evolution the error remains and the
Inbox.ibex.index is not recreated.
What can I do to fix this situation?

Samsung Print driver Info
by Mickey
Fedora 16,17 Samsung Printer drivers.
If you go onto Samsung driver download site and download a Drivers for a
CLX3175FN printer for Fedora 16,17 the driver they have won't work .
They only work on Fedora 15 and previous.
The updated drivers for Fedora 16, the CLX3175FN are in the CLX3185
drivers download.

problem with subversion python bindings
by Pete Stieber
Just updated a Fedora 15 box and this updated
subversion-libs-1.6.18-1.fc15.x86_64
mod_dav_svn-1.6.18-1.fc15.x86_64
subversion-1.6.18-1.fc15.x86_64
Now my post-commit hook to send mail doesn't work because it can't
import svn.fs. Any simple python code like...
#!/usr/bin/env python
import svn.fs
Can't find the subversion python bindings...
$ ./Junk.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "./Junk.py", line 3, in <module>
import svn.fs
ImportError: No module named svn.fs
What can I do to fix this?

Restarting services
by Patrick O'Callaghan
F16
After a recent yum update, "needs-restarting" says that colord should be
restarted. OK, let's see:
1) pstree says that colord's parent is systemd
2) "systemctl list-units" doesn't mention colord
3) There is no man page for colord
4) The colord docs ("rpm -qd colord") don't say anything about using
signals to restart, or indeed anything about restarting.
5) There is no mention of colord in any file under /etc
Obviously I could log out and in again, but I'm interested in exploring
just how one is supposed to find this kind of information in the general
case -- not just for colord --other than asking the list or reading the
source code.
Thoughts?

Connecting to a Zeroconfig/Avahi printer
by SternData
I have a really nice HP printer that's currently connected via USB cable
to this system. I need to move it out of cable range. My OS/X and iOS
devices are able to find it and print to it using the magic of Bonjour.
Is there a way for Fedora to use it via Avahi, rather than ipp and
giving the printer a fixed IP address?

Random Frequent Session Crashed
by Dave Cross
For about the last month I've been getting random frequent session
crashes. They take one of three forms:
* The PC reboots
* The GNOME session freezes
* The GNOME session dies and I'm presented with the GNOME login screen
All of these results are, of course, really annoying.
I can usually run for two or three hours without this happening, but
sometimes it can happen every fifteen minutes or so.
Whenever it happens, /var/log/messages contains this:
May 13 16:45:24 xander gnome-session[3681]: Gdk-WARNING:
gnome-session: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on
X server :0.#012
May 13 16:45:24 xander systemd-logind[958]: Removed session 6.
I'm running Fedora 16, 32 bit PAE, with the NVidia drivers from RPM Fusion.
I'm sure that this isn't enough information to help me, but if you
could tell me what other information would be useful, I'm happy to
provide it.
Thanks,
Dave...

akmod-nvidia causing big problems on F15 system
by Dean S. Messing
I recently did a yum update on my F15 which pulled in a new kernel, and
a lot of other packages.
After a reboot, KDE locked up. Eventually I got a message saying that
compositing (for Desktop Effects) had been turned off because my system
was too slow (which it is not.)
Thankfully I had done a full backup before the update so I restored the
old system and the problems vanished. I have KDE configured to use all
the nice Desktop Effects which makes heavy use of OpenGL. It has run
flawlessly till this update.
I then began a process of elimination, restricting (for example) new KDE
packages from being updated, restricting the kernel from being updated,
&c. with restores of the old system in between. Every single trial hosed
KDE's operation.
After lots of trials I finally noticed that
akmod-nvidia-280.13-4.fc15.x86_64 was always being pulled in, so I
finally restricted that (and the new kernel) so that kmod-nvidia would
not be recompiled upon reboot. Voila! No KDE problems.
One last experiment: I updated _only_ akmod-nvidia, rebooted to allow
kmod-nvidia to rebuilt and KDE was hosed. Looking in Xorg.log I saw
a boatload of error messages like this
KWin::checkGLError: GL error ( PostPaint ): ???
where ??? was a hex number (that, alas, I didn't write down). A google
search at the time brought up nothing and I see no recent reported
errors with akmod-nvidia.
Might one of you nvidia wizards on the list know what's going on or
whatq I might do to diagnose the problem?
Thanks.

uvcvideo driver and Z-Star Microelectronics device
by Alexander Volovics
Anybody have experience with newer Z-Star Microelectronics devices
and the uvcvideo driver?
I have a Z-Star 0ac8:c449 in a Lenovo PC.
It is recognized by the kernel (Fed17beta TC5) at boot:
[ 9.453984] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device Integrated Camera
(0ac8:c449)
[ 9.456016] usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo
But when I use Cheese to make a video it doesn't work and I get
the following warnings:
** (cheese:1539): WARNING **: Could not get buffers from device
'/dev/video0'.
** (cheese:1539): WARNING **: Could not map buffers from device
'/dev/video0'
** (cheese:1539): WARNING **: Could not negotiate format
Is this a bug in Cheese or can't uvcvideo negociate the device?
I would appreciate any help as my knowledge of both webcams and
Cheese is nonexistent.

(no subject)
by Reg Clemens
I set my screen size to 1280x1024 in my xorg.conf
This worked fine up thru Fedora 11 (I dont currently have running copies
of F12 or F13 to test it there) but it DOES NOT WORK in Fedora14.
In Fedora14 I get 1024x768 with or without the xorg.conf.
Now my actual screen is behind a KVM so that is part of the problem, if I
connect the monitor directly to the computer everything works correctly
and I get a screen size of 1280x1024,
So my question.
Is there some way to FORCE X11 to run at 1280x1024 in Fedora14, independent
of any tests it may make of the screen?
Having something to override this (incorrect) behavior would be REALLY helpful.
I keep several old versions of Fedora around for testing of some software,
so PLEASE dont tell me to just move to the most recent release.
