16 -> 17 = No HDMI

Fedora no longer recognizes my HDTV as a second monitor; Worked just perfectly in F16 bringing up the display dialog when I plugged it into the HDMI port. System settings -> display shows only the laptop display. A. Any suggestions and; B. Not sure what to file a bug report against. Possibly dbus but I'm not sure. Again, any suggestions?

Question on tricking F17 to install

I bought the F17 DVD from OSDISC.com whose disks have always worked before. But the one they sent me did not boot into the installer. So while waiting for a replacement I came up with the following scheme to install F17. I booted the F16 DVD up to the point where is starts the check the medium. Then I switched the DVDs so the F17 DVD would be checked. It checked out fine. After the check it jumped to the expected GUI to choose a language. So now the question. If I continue with the install using the F17 DVD will it successfully boot as F17? I am going to try this tomorrow but I will not waste my time if someone has a good reason to think this will not succeed. -- ======================================================================= Boling's postulate: If you're feeling good, don't worry. NFS kernel panic?

I typed "reboot" on my f17 desktop today to temporarily switch to a different boot partition, and I wound up with the system totally frozen and the tail end of a kernel panic on my screen with various nfs_* routine names included in the walkback. Unfortunately no information was recorded in any logs, so I have nothing to submit as a bug report, but was wondering if anyone else had seen any NFS related kernel panics. I'm running kernel 3.4.0-1.fc17.x86_64. If it happens again, maybe I can at least take a picture of the screen :-).

Password issues

Hi There, Just a rant, nothing more. I know the solution. I like Linux (Fedora in particular) because my computer doesn't tell me what I can and can not do - I tell the computer what to do. Today, I decide to change my own user password into something that's easier to type (through the settings -> user accounts dialogue). Lovely feature has this thing; I want to set on my own computer a password of my liking, and I am in charge of that, okay? Stupid machine! "Error: The password is too simple, please choose another one!" Well fark me! Me not liking that at all. This computer holds few important things, this computer is under lock and key - it's harder to get to it than to crack a decent password so why the fark would I want a difficult password??? I understand the rationale behind this error message, but I don't believe it's the government's duty to protect the stupid from harm. If you willingly go against all common sense and die, well - it's your own stupid farking fault. And so I don't believe the dev's of Fedora, or Gnome, or anyone else is responsible for people dumb enough to stick an easy to guess password in their bank account. If I lose my money because my password is too easy to hack, there's nobody to blame but me. Advice is great; thank you ("Users and Groups" dialogue) for warning me that my password is too weak - do you really want to take that risk? Yes, please - my own responsibility. Anyway, there is an easy workaround. And this is the first thing I encounter in F17 that irks me. For the rest - I absolutely adore it. Love it. Great. Everything is getting better all the time.Thank you for this great OS, with a feature built in to protect people who are too stupid to own a computer. I mean, if you're smart enough to step away from Windoze and are able to familiarize yourself with any flavour of Linux, I'm certain you've heard of clever passwords. If I wanted a nanny, I'd get a sexy one - not a digital one. Thank you for reading. Fedora 17 cannot get nfs to work

I just installed f17. When I try to run the nfs server, and a bunch of other things as well, I get this error message: [root@frankenstein etc]# systemctl start nfs-server.service Failed to issue method call: Unit var-run.mount failed to load: No such file or directory. See system logs and 'systemctl status var-run.mount' for details. The log file is full of this message. What is causing it? from /var/log/messages: Jun 10 18:15:33 frankenstein TIFIER=systemd[1]: Cannot add dependency job for unit lvm2-monitor.service, ignoring: Unit var-run.mount failed to load: No such file or directory. See system logs and 'systemctl status var-run.mount' for details. No device (wireless router) at mac address.

Platform: F17 x64 Dell Studio XPS Dell Wireless 1505 draft 802.11n WLAN mini-card Router: Livebox (Sagem) Hello, No problem to set my wireless LAN up under Windows7 x64. I only have to input the SSID, the security mode and the WEP key. Unfortunately Fedora' s network configuration tool system-config-network does not find any device at the router' s mac address I have input (when I click "probe"), although this router is connected to the ethernet port and handles the internet connection which works fine. What' s wrong ? Your insights would be most appreciated. Thanks.
