I've looked at Google Translate between English and Spanish, and in my experience it's pretty terrible on extended texts (i.e. more than one or two words at a time). I've found Reverso Context to much more reliable, especially when applied to colloquial phrases, without going to more professional translation software. It also has a handy browser extension.
