ACPI battery module broken?
by Peter Boy
If I activate ACPI on my IBM Thinkpad T40p, the gnome battery applet
shows up with 0%.
If I check /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state I get:
present: yes
ERROR: Unable to read battery status
Is this usual for the current status of acpi support or is there an
error?

cvs rebuild so it uses libcom_err.so.2 in stead of libcom_err.so.3
by A.J. Bonnema
Hi,
I have Fedora Core 1 installed and I want to use cvs, but it aborts with
the message:
"cvs: error while loading shared libraries: libcom_err.so.3: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory"
I found 3 bugs in bugzilla describing this issue from krb point of view.
So the resolution is to rebuild cvs.
Now, I don't know how to get cvs rebuilt, unless I have rebuild from
source.
How can I rebuild the cvs package?
Or is compile unavailable? I tried up2date cvs, but that does nothing,
because cvs is already installed.
Another point is, when I do "rpm -q --requires cvs" | grep libcom" I get:
"libcom_err.so.2"
So I don't understand why it is "screaming" about libcom_err.so.3.
Guus.

tweaking to get it to run, like disabling accel on the graphics card,
searching the net for nic drivers and what not, but i just installed
Fedora last night on it, took only 20min as normal, and everything was
configured, and i have accel on the video now...

up2date: package not signed with a GPG-key (aborting...)
by A.J. Bonnema
Sometimes I get a "package not signed with a gpg-key (aborting)" from
up2date, which means I can't download these packages.
For instance, mplayer needs aalib, but aalib is not signed, so the
download is aborted.
How can I go about getting this package signed or otherwise correct the
issue?

cronjobs query
by Craig Tinson
hey guys.. quick question.. thought I had this figured but i must be
missing something
I have the following in /etc/crontab
0-59/5 * * * * root /usr/bin/mrtg /usr/share/toaster/mrtg/qmailmrtg.cfg
2>&1 > /dev/null
I was under the impression that the "2>&1 > /dev/null" would quit crond
sending root an email with the results of the cron job..
but I'm still getting mails every 5 mins.. how can I get it to just kill
the output?
cheers

OpenOffice hackers! Symbol fonts (again)
by Mikko Huhtala
For some reason the symbol fonts (Symbol, Open Symbol, Standard
Symbols) do not behave in OpenOffice 1.1.0 on Fedora. Inserting
symbols from the dialog is ok, but typing them does not work and
neither does import/export to MS Word doc format. These things do work
on RH9 using the same version of OOo, so this seems to be a
regression. Can someone in the know try to find out what is going on?

'Symbol' font in OpenOffice.org does not work
by Mikko Huhtala
The 'Symbol' font is invisible in the font menu of OpenOffice 1.1
Writer. The characters themselves in text are either not rendered at
all or are rendered wrong. Reading in existing documents with
e.g. Greek letters does show the glyphs, but they are rendered on top
of adjacent characters that are in other fonts.
The problem occurs with both the RPM-packaged OOo 1.1 that comes with
Fedora Core 1 and OOo 1.1 installed using the installer package from
the OOo web site. The Symbol font *does* work using the exactly same
version, installation and config files of OOo on Red Hat 9, which
makes me think that the new fontconfig or something in Fedora breaks
OOo.
Can someone verify this? Is this a known problem? I submitted a bug in
the RH bugzilla, but there have been no responses.
I'm looking to update a dozen or so desktops in a scientific lab. The
font problem may seem like a small thing, but it is actually a
showstopper bug for us, since almost everyone's documents have a few
alphas, betas, gammas etc. per sentence.

Custom Install of Evolution
by David Cary Hart
Evolution is rather sluggish. I'd like to reinstall from the source
code. In advance of doing so, I tried the Ximian rpm and it failed
dependencies. In other words, it seems possible that the RH9 Evolution
code is incompatible with Fedora.
Has anyone tried to install from source or RH9 RPMs? Any thoughts?
