RE: Installation problem on Compaq Notebook
by Thomas Klinger
Hi Chris,
> Did you try going into the bios settings and turning off legacy USB
> support? Had to do that on 2100 series Presario laptops.
>
it was the legacy USB support of the BIOS. Now I can at least boot and can
choose my language.
But as soon as I get to the installation method and choose CDROM there
Fedora responds that it cannot find any CDROM.
Alt+F3 tells me that he tries to mount hdc. Because it is a DVD/CD-RW I
included already at the boot screen hdc=ide-scsi, otherwise I would have a
lot of errors on console 4 like previously. Without ide-scsi emulation
you'll have ATAPI errors.
...
<4>hdc: ATAPI reset complete
<4>hdc: status error: status=0x20 { DeviceFault }
<4>hdc: status error: error=0x20LastFailedSense 0x02
<4>end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 64
<4>isofs_read_super: bread failed, dev=16:00, iso_blknum=16, block=32
... aso (lines above are repeated)
Those error messages won't appear anymore with the switch hdc=ide-scsi.
Therefore on console 3 I have the message:
...
* no devices to activate
* trying to mount Cd device hdc
I even tried different variations with noapic, acpi=on and ide=nodma. No
progress with that.
The LED of the disk stays on, CTRL+ALT+DEL sends the reboot signal, LED
still stays and doesn't really reboot. Had to switch the notebook off and on
again.
Any hints? Or is the self-burned CD simply damaged?
Regards, Thomas

Mailman in FC1
by Charles Layno
I am new to list here so if this has been answered, just point me in the
direction of the answer and I will go there.
I have Mailman installed from the RC1 install bundle and set it up according
to how I did in the old RH9 (after the update for Mailman was put out) and
when I go to the web interface (my.domain.com/mailman/listinfo)
I get the following:
Bug in Mailman version 2.1.2
We're sorry, we hit a bug!
If you would like to help us identify the problem, please email a copy of this
page to the webmaster for this site with a description of what happened.
Thanks!

Others from the Mailman list are having this same problem and most on that
list believe it is a Python compile problem. Does anyone here have a running
Mailman from FC1? If so what did you do to make it work?
Two additional notes, I can create lists from the command line just fine and I
can go to a direct list web page (my.domain.com/mailman/admin/listname) and
it works.
Thanks

mkbootdisk failure when fd0 is previously mounted
by snookertb
I mount a floppy and run the normal mkbootdisk to set up a bootdisk. The
command completes but the disk is trash.
If I run the same mkbootdisk command with the blank floppy _NOT_
mounted, the command completes and the bootdisk works fine.
Anyone know if this is how it should be? I sure trips you up.

Up2date pgp key
by Mike - W0TMW
It's been a long time since I futzed with keys. I've installed fedora
and all appears OK, except when I run up2date I get a message that the
Red Hat key isn't installed, would I like to do so. I response "Yes"
but apparently the key update doesn't occur.
How can I fix this. I can't use the command line version of up2date
without fixing this. Any advice is appreciated.
