Since Kernel 3.3.4-3.fc16.x86_64 #1 SMP
by Andrew Gray
Hi
Had some funnies since Kernel 3.3.4-3.fc16.x86_64 #1 SMP
The Postfix service still under System V startup is failing to start on
reboot and has to be manually started, this wasn't a problem until
Kernel 3.3.4-3
This last reboot the system font setting had been lost setting for
fonts, they where wrong.
Seemed tbe Sanserif font is a problem under English (Great Britain) was
all blocky , have switch using "Font Tweak Tool" to Ariel for system
fonts and get clear fonts.
This has never happened before kernel 3.3.4-3

Why isn' t xbindkeys-config part of Fedora?
by Fernando Cassia
Fedora includes the xbindkeys program for keyboard remapping to launch
certain apps etc. But not the GTK GUI that makes it user-friendly to
use.

Why?

Screen Size Problem in X11 / F14.
by Reg Clemens
I keep several old versions of Fedora around for testing of some software,
so PLEASE dont tell me to just move to the most recent release.
OK, I set my screen size to 1280x1024 in my xorg.conf
This worked fine up thru Fedora 11 (I dont currently have running copies
of F12 or F13 to test it there) but it DOES NOT WORK in Fedora14.
In Fedora14 I get 1024x768 with or without the xorg.conf.
Now my actual screen is behind a KVM so that is part of the problem, if I
connect the monitor directly to the computer everything works correctly.
So my question.
Is there some way to FORCE X11 to run at 1280x1024 in Fedora14, independent
of any tests it may make of the screen?
Having something to override this (incorrect) behavior would be REALLY helpful.

totem hangs on startup
by Martín Marqués
I just finished upgrading from F15->F16 and I noticed that when ever I
start totem y hangs (a video hang) immediately.
For example, if I start it with a video (avi for example) all the
window hangs but the audio gets played OK. Same video works OK on
another F16 I have on my desktop computer (exact same version of
totem).
If I start totem without a video, I can't access the menu, as it is
too hanged. Can't close it either. I have to kill the window.
Already tried removing conf files (.gconf/, .gnome2/, etc.).
Any thoughts?

Network problems
by Timothy Murphy
I've been trying to move from one home network server to another
(because of hard disk problems with the first).
I've found from this that I don't really understand how networking works,
and I'm writing now to ask for some help with this.
Basically, I have this setup:
ADSL modem/router <-> server <-> Linksys WiFi router.
I'm running dhcp and shorewall on the server.
The ADSL modem has address 192.168.1.254 .
The computers, printers, etc on the LAN have addresses 192.168.2.* ,
eg the laptop I'm using has address 192.168.2.7 ,
and has default gateway 192.168.2.2 , which is the server.
The default gateway on the server is 192.168.1.254 .
(I am running CentOS on the servers, and Fedora-16 on everything else.)
Now this is my question:
Suppose I want to access the internet, say www.google.com .
Presumably my packets go first to the Linksys router,
then to server, and then on to the ADSL modem/router.
I have the lines
#INTERFACE SOURCE ADDRESS PROTO PORT(S) IPSEC MARK
eth0 eth1
in /etc/shorewall/masq on my server, with
#ZONE INTERFACE BROADCAST OPTIONS
net eth0 detect dhcp,tcpflags,routefilter,nosmurfs,logmartians
loc eth1 192.168.2.255
vpn tun0 192.168.6.255
in /etc/shorewall/interfaces .
Am I right in thinking that the masq entry causes packets
arriving at the server along the eth1 (192.168.2.*) LAN
to be re-directed along the eth0 (192.168.1.*) interface,
and thence to the ADSL modem?
What has been happening in practice is that when I change server
(with the new server at 192.168.2.5), alter all the relevant addresses
restart shorewall and dhcpd on the new server,
and check "route -n" on all the computers involved
I'm not able to access the internet from my laptop.
In fact I cannot access anything on the eth0 (192.168.1.*) network.
At this point I have a cup of tea, then re-start everything,
re-boot my laptop, etc, and after some time it all starts working.
What I'd really like is to trace packets as they go through the system,
and see how they change.
Or alternatively, read some document which will explain to me
exactly how all the parts of the system fit together.
I really would be most grateful for any advice or suggestions on this.

volume levels
by patrick korsnick
On the Desktop (Gnome) spin the volume control allows setting values higher
than 100%. The KDE and Xfce spins don't allow this. I have a laptop that is
very hard to hear audio on unless using the Gnome spin and having the vol
cranked up to 150% or so. But I haven't really been able to get comfortable
with G3, so my question is has anyone figured out how to get this
overboosted volume on another DE spin?
Thanks
