GTK-2 question
by Globe Trotter
Sorry if this is not appropriate for posting here.
I use GTK2-versions of Firefox for my browser and of sylpheed-claws for my
e-mail agent. I wanted to use separate themes/settings for each of these. How
do I set it up if I want to do that? Is it possible, or do I have to stick with
the same GTK2 settings for every application?
Thanks and best wishes!

Grub problems after RH7.1->FC1 Upgrade
by Steve Thorpe
Greetings,
I upgraded an RH7.1 box to FC1 and it went fairly smoothly.
One thing I noticed after the upgrade though -- it was
still using lilo and grub hadn't been installed. So I
installed & attempted to configure grub, with only partial
success - it manages to boot to the grub> prompt but then
it waits for me to manually finish the boot procedure by
entering these commands by hand:
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.22-1.2115.nptlsmp root=/dev/hda5
initrd /initrd-2.4.22-1.2115.nptlsmp.img
boot
I really really want this to be automated at bootup!
There must be something really simple that I am missing -
right? Any advice would be very much appreciated. Some
more info on how I installed follows FYI.
Thanks a lot,
Steve Thorpe

Any ideas why this error occurs even with the original non SMP kernel

Re: hardware list for Fedora
by duncan brown
typically it depends on the age of your hardware components... if they're components that've been around for a little while (6+ months), then everything *should* work out of the box.
what do you have?

Re: Copy with SCP - low performance
by duncan brown
you may be better off encapsulating the first part, and if you were doing a tar across a wan, you'd want to use bzip2 or gzip compression on your two tar command lines.
(cd bar && tar c foo) | ssh user@blabla "cd /dir_on_blabla && tar x"
[though i do this] :
(cd /var/www/html/images && tar cfj - ./) | ssh user@system "cd /var/www/html/images && tar xvfj -"
same thing, basically... just different methods... and the v in the second tar gives you verbose output (which you may not want on a few million files)

Re: Segmentation fault
by dhananjoy
this is not a hardware issue..
it is regarding the rpm package..it may be corrupted.. try downloading a new version of the rpm..

I have just tried to install an rpm and the process stopped part way

Is this a hardware or software problem? I am suspecting that this means
I had a corrupt download. More importantly ... whats the answer.
